Zoe Saldana was born on June 19, 1978 in Passaic, New Jersey, to Asalia Nazario and Aridio Saldana. Her father was Dominican and her mother Puerto Rican. Her family was from Queens, New York. After she turned 10, she and her parents moved to Dominican Republic. They lived in the Dominican Republic for seven more years. Zoe discovered a love for dance performance while living in Dominican Republic. She started her training with the ECOS Espacio de Danza Dance Academy and was there to learn ballet as well as other types of dance. Not only did her training offer a great outlet for the energetic and enthusiastic youngster and her family, but it was also proving as a great prelude to her professional acting career. Zoe's family relocated to United States when Zoe was seventeen years old. She was a dancer with a passion and interest in performing on stage increased.
