Rosalia Vila Tobella[2] (born 25 September 1992),[3] known mononymously as Rosalia (Spanish: [rosa'li.a], Catalan: [ruz@'li.@]),[4][5][6] is a Spanish singer. She was raised in Barcelona and has been described as an "atypical popstar" because of her diverse musical styles. Her passion for music was ignited by Spanish folk music when she was just 13 years old. She studied musicology at the Catalonia College of Music and also performed at weddings. It reimagined flamenco, mixing it with pop and hip-hop music. The two singles "Malamente", and "Pienso in tu Mira" were hugely popular with the Spanish public and garnered universal critical acclaim. [11] Recipient of the Latin Grammy Award for Album of the Year, and a place in Rolling stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, El Mal Querer started the climb of Rosalia into the international music scene. Rosalia, who explored urbano music through her 2019 albums "Con Altura" and "Yo Ti Tu x Mi", has achieved worldwide success. Her third studio album Motomami (2022) introduced reggaeton to a new experimental sound, breaking away from the previous flamenco-inspired style. The album received international attention due to its singles "La Fama" and "Saoko" and went on to become the best reviewed album of the year on Metacritic. Rosalia has scored ten top-ten singles in her career, all in her native country. It's the highest number for an artist from that region. The singer has also received two Grammy Awards, eleven Latin Grammy Awards (including two Album of the Year wins), four MTV Video Music Awards, an MTV Europe Music Award, three UK Music Video Awards and two Premio Ruido awards, among other things. Billboard presented her with the Rising Star Award, in 2019, for "changing the style of popular songs by introducing her unique flamenco-infused pop". 18 years ago, she was also the first singer from a Spanish group to be recognized as the Best New Artist at Grammys.
Rosalia was born on 25 September 1992 in Sant Cugat del Valles and raised in Sant Esteve Sesrovires,[20][21][22] Baix Llobregat, Catalonia. The family she was born into has no artistic backgrounds She is the eldest daughter of Pilar Tobella, a businesswoman who manages a small family business focused on metalwork. Her father, Jose Manuel Vila, was born in Cudillero, Asturias. They split in 2019. [23] Rosalia's older sister Pilar Vila who was born in 1989 was her stylist. Rosalia showed an interest in performing arts at an early age, particularly following her discovery of the discography of Camaron de la Isla. Her musical education began in Taller de Musics. She completed a six-year program in the academy. She was a student at the Raval School, and then transferred to the Superior School of Music of Catalonia. In addition, she was a solo singer, singing at weddings and in bars with musical music. She was compensated "a just a little over 80 euros" or in exchange for dinner.
